Mary-Lou Nash – Passion, Precision, and Joy for Wine
Mary-Lou Nash is many things at once: South African winemaker, viticulturist, entrepreneur, mother—and a woman with contagious enthusiasm for wine. Her journey began almost by chance when she moved to South Africa and started working in the wine industry. What started as curiosity quickly became a calling.
Driven by thirst for knowledge and a near-perfectionist passion, Mary-Lou completed numerous courses at the Cape Wine Academy, culminating in 2011 with the title of Cape Wine Master and an award for excellence in brandy production. Despite her impressive expertise, she has always retained her lightheartedness, joy, and deep love for winemaking.
Mary-Lou Nash embodies women’s power in South African winemaking in her own way - grounded, creative, and with an exceptional sense for enjoyment. Sometimes her dedication even leads her to craft a unique wine specifically to match a meal. She proves that precision and joy are not contradictory, but complementary.

Maryke Botha – Courage to Redefine and Team Spirit
Since August 2023, Maryke Botha has served as head winemaker at Bosman, a role she fulfills with seriousness, curiosity, and passion. From the very first meeting, mentor Corlea Fourie recognized Maryke’s drive: she didn’t just want to work in wine—she wanted to truly make wine.
Raised in Gauteng, Maryke first encountered wine during holidays at the Cape. Becoming a winemaker seemed unreachable, so she initially studied optometry. Only a move to the Cape changed everything—she switched to Stellenbosch University to study viticulture. Soon, she realized that wine is far more than chemistry - it is art, intuition, and expression.
Maryke values her current environment: a winery known for innovation, sustainable practices, and experimentation with lesser-known varietals. The chance to maintain high quality standards while expressing her own signature is a privilege.
Together with experienced winemakers Corlea Fourie and Maria Gant, Maryke forms an all-female cellar team - a strong symbol of female empowerment in South African winemaking, defined by collaboration, respect, and shared vision.

Debbie Thompson – Experience, Leadership, and Passion for Wine
Debbie Thompson has carved out a strong position in South Africa’s traditionally male-dominated wine industry. She spent 20 years at Simonsig under Johan Malan, initially as the first female winemaker focusing on reds, before becoming cellar master.
The move to Stellenview Premium Wines was a complete 360-degree shift. Transitioning from a large, established cellar to a smaller, modern facility brought new challenges, including embracing different varietals and managing a compact, highly practical team. Together with her assistant Marthinique de Bruin, Debbie leads a predominantly female team built on collaboration, trust, and mutual support.
Under her guidance, Stellenview has achieved remarkable successes and continues striving for excellence. Debbie’s approach combines expertise, precision, and strategic leadership, offering a clear example of women’s power in South African winemaking.
Outside the cellar, she enjoys nature with her husband Simon and daughters Hannah and Jesse, balancing career, passion, and family life.
Samantha O’Keefe – Courage, Resilience, and Handcrafted Cool-Climate Wines
Samantha O’Keefe’s wine journey began with a bold move: relocating from California to Greyton in the cool-climate Overberg region. On the picturesque Riviersonderend Ranch, 300 meters above sea level at the foot of a mountain, she found ideal conditions for hand-crafted, elegant wines. Despite challenges, she pursued her vision of a small, character-driven production.
After years of hard work, her wines gained international recognition, and Lismore Estate Vineyards became a success story. In 2019, however, a devastating bushfire destroyed almost the entire farm - including vines, buildings, and equipment. For many, this would have ended a dream. Not for Samantha.
With unwavering determination, tireless energy, and strong industry support, she rebuilt Lismore Estate. Today, she is one of the leading female winemakers at the Cape, producing cool-climate wines of exceptional quality, reflecting courage, resilience, and passion. Samantha O’Keefe is a strong symbol of female empowerment in South African winemaking - creative, resilient, and uncompromisingly dedicated.

Her style is defined by terroir-driven South African wines that uncompromisingly showcase the origin and grape variety. Stephanie works with exceptional vineyard sites, often off the beaten path, vinifying minimally and patiently. The result is elegant Cape wines with depth, texture, and precise tension.

Jocelyn Hogan – Terroir, Finesse, and Intuitive Winemaking
Jocelyn Hogan is one of South Africa’s most remarkable winemakers and the founder of Hogan Wines, a small, family-run wine project in the Banhoek Valley near Stellenbosch. Her passion for botany, soils, and wine led her to study viticulture and oenology at Stellenbosch University in 2001 - a foundation that shines through in every bottle she produces.
After years of international and local experience, Jocelyn returned to the Cape and established Hogan Wines in 2014 with the goal of crafting elegant, terroir-driven wines. She works with minimal intervention, giving each vintage the attention it deserves to fully express the uniqueness of its origin.
Jocelyn deliberately seeks out older vines with deep roots and lower yields, believing they best convey the story of each vintage. Through gentle vinification, native fermentation, and minimal new oak, her wines are influenced only as much as necessary - favoring expression over uniformity.
The result is wines of finesse and character, often award-winning: from the precise Swartland Chenin Blanc to the elegant Galvanised Chardonnay, and full of personality in reds like the Divergent Blend or single-varietal Cabernet Francs - all marked by balance, depth, and a clear sense of place.
Jocelyn lives on Dwarsriviershoek Farm with her husband and two children, blending family life, connection to nature, and uncompromising quality in her work - a powerful example of female leadership in South African winemaking that has earned recognition both locally and internationally.
