Vineyard Muratie Wine Estate
With great care and passion, Muratie Wine Estate is dedicated to protect and maintain the centuries-old tradition and experience that has always been a magnet for wine lovers around the world. Winemaker Hattingh de Villiers creates Muratie's award-winning and highly localised portfolio, which includes wines such as Muratie Melck's Red, Muratie Ronnie Melck Shiraz and sparkling liqueur wines such as Muratie Cape Ruby in Port style.
The history of the winery can be traced back to 1685, when the then Governor of the Cape of Good Hope, Simon van der Stel, allocated the land to the first farmers. This makes Muratie one of the oldest wineries in South Africa, and with this age comes a lot of charm and fascinating stories. The Melck family has fantastically managed to revive this rich legacy in a modernised yet classic evolution of the brand, by immortalising the historical characters of the wine farm in the names of the wines.
But it is not only the labels of the wines that have undergone a kind of evolution, but also the wines themselves. Under the guidance of winemaker Hatting De Villiers, Muratie's wines have taken on an incredibly refined style, which has secured Muratie a solid place in South Africa's wine industry as a serious and globally respected producer of premium Bordeaux blends, Shiraz, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Historically, Muratie is known as the first producer of Pinot Noir and fine Port style liqueur wines.
Together with the development of other grape varieties, Muratie has taken itself to a new level of appreciation among truly discerning wine lovers and connoisseurs, and enjoys a worldwide reputation synonymous with first class quality.
