Excellent wines from Tim Atkin

The new report celebrates a country that is more sustainable, more diverse and better than ever before. Discover Atkin 2025's top-rated wines now - from honest everyday heroes to old-vine classics.

When British Master of Wine Tim Atkin publishes his annual South Africa Special Report, the wine world listens closely. This year's Report 2025 is a passionate plea for a country that has not only become better in recent years, but also broader.

Atkin describes a South Africa that has reinvented itself - from large co-operatives to small family businesses. Today, over 2,000 producers contribute to a diversity that is unrivalled. Many of them are working more sustainably than ever, with regenerative methods, old vines and a new awareness of origin and nature.

Winegrowers such as Spier, Rustenberg, Waterkloof, Van Loveren and Kleine Zalze - all names that can also be found in our range - symbolise this change. They create wines that show character and identity while remaining affordable and accessible.

According to Atkin, the contribution of the Old Vine Project movement is particularly impressive. Old vines are now producing some of the most exciting and characterful wines in the country - wines that combine depth, balance and authenticity. Producers such as Perdeberg, Mullineux, Thorne & Daughters, Sadie Family Wines, Bellingham, Damascene and Stellenrust show just how diverse this treasure trove of old vines can be interpreted - from fresh Chenin to complex cuvées.

According to Atkin, the 2025 vintage is considered one of the best of the last decade: ideal conditions, healthy vines, balanced freshness and structure. "South Africa is making the best wines in its history," he summarises.

In short: South Africa has found its balance. Quality, sustainability and enjoyment are no longer mutually exclusive - they belong together.
