Black Elephant Vintners

Vineyard Black Elephant Vintners

The boutique winery Black Elephant Vintners is located inSouth Africa's picturesque village and wine region of Franschhoek, where winemaker Jacques Wentzel, together with co-owners Kevin Swart and Raymond Ndlovu, produces highly prized and award-winning wines of individual style and distinctive presentation under the two wine ranges "Black Elephant range" and "The Back Roads range" with highly creative names and artistically designed labels. Also known for its wines in cans, Black Elephant Vintners markets single varietal Sauvignon Blanc, Pinor Noir and a fresh rosé in convenient beverage cans, practical for outdoor picnics and festival enjoyment. This dynamic and young trio is committed to "reinventing the art of winemaking."

Surrounded by majestic mountains, the picturesque Franschhoek Valley is located in one of the most sought-after wine regions in the southern hemisphere. Settled by the French Huguenots in 1687, this beautiful area is home to some of South Africa's most sought-after wine experiences and coveted culinary highlights.

It also hosts a variety of festivals such as the Bastille Festival, the Champagne Festival, the famous Chocolate Festival and many more. Franschhoek, with its unrivalled natural beauty, remains a must-see and a place to experience. The splendour and flavour of the old world meets the modernity of the new world - always in a lively dance of colour, culture, flavour and hospitality. And this is the home of the Black Elephant Vintners.

Pure synchronicity and chance friendships, as well as a deep and sincere love of wine, led to the birth of Black Elephant Vintners. Kevin, Raymond and Jacques combined their individual skills and strengths to have "serious fun" with the creative process of winemaking. They established their title as "Rebels of the Vine" by constantly trying to demystify the winemaking process for all enthusiasts. And how did the name "Black Elephant Winemakers" come about? Again, there was immense creativity at work in the naming process: ex-stockbroker Kevin Swart (his surname means "black" in Afrikaans), his business partner Raymond Ndlovu (Ndlovu means "elephant" in the African Nguni languages) and Jacques Wentzel is the company's winemaker and oenologist (vinter = "winemaker").

By cutting out the stereotypical framework and pretensions of the wine industry and dedicating their raw passion to pure craftsmanship, the three rebels have successfully created a unique selection of wines with unrivalled character. Wines that cater to a variety of desires, different tastes and special occasions. "Real wine for real people".

But what makes this triptych so brilliant? Body, mind and soul... it is the individual contributions that each of the three "rebels" makes and brings to the Black Elephant Vintners. Jacques is the body that provides what you can see and taste. Kevin is the spirit who brings innovation to the game by creatively realising radical ideas, and Raymond is the soul - he finds immense value in how much customers appreciate the wine as a product and how they become part of the "tribe".

At Black Elephant Vintners, individuality, dynamism, pioneering spirit and creativity are combined with outstanding wine expertise, business know-how and a passionate love for the art of winemaking. The outstanding success, both domestically and internationally, is testimony to the first-class quality and individuality of Black Elephant Vintners' wines.
