The Vergelegen Flagship Estate Red 2021 is a remarkable wine, crafted in the classic Bordeaux style. It reveals a nuanced aromatic profile with notes of ripe plums, dark chocolate, graphite, blackcurrant, and cedar wood. On the palate, it showcases a harmonious blend of fruit, tannins, and acidity, gracefully accented by dark cherries and blackcurrants, along with a refreshing minerality. This wine stands as a testament to the perfection of its vintage.
The grapes were handpicked, and the must was fermented with natural yeasts over three to four weeks. Following this, the young wine matured in new French barriques for 18 months, utilizing 100% new oak. 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Merlot, 17% Cabernet Franc, 8% Malbec, 6% Petit Verdot.
