With a rich berry-red color and a ruby ring, the Spier Frans K. Smit Red offers an irresistible bouquet of aromatic cedar, ripe berries, and juicy cherries, accented by a light touch of mint. It presents remarkable complexity on the palate, characterized by a dense structure and a silky mid-palate. Cabernet Franc contributes lovely richness with sweet fruit hints and a creamy mouthfeel, while Petit Verdot ensures harmonious balance and exceptional structure. Elegance is defined by the wine's soft tannins and vibrant acidity, leading to a long and smooth finish that delights the senses.
Under the expertise of winemaker Frans Smit, Spier has evolved from a modest winery in the 1980s to a distinguished Stellenbosch producer, leveraging three centuries of winemaking tradition.
Das Traubengut für diese hochdotierte Cuvée im klassischen Bordeaux-Stil wurde handgelesen und in kleinen Stiegen zur Kellerei transportiert, wo es zunächst mit groβer Sorgfalt handsortiert und komplett entrappt wurde. Die verschiedenen Rebsorten fermentierten separat in kleinen 600 l Fermentern und verbrachten eine ausgedehnte Zeit auf der Haut. Nach Abschluss der alkoholischen Gärung fand die malolaktische Fermentierung im Fass statt, mit anschlieβender Reifung von 24 Monaten auf der Hefe. Ausschlieβlich die besten Fässer wurden nach der zweijährigen Reifung für den weiteren Produktionsverlauf ausgewählt und anschlieβend mit Know-how und Sorgfalt verschnitten. Nach Verschnitt wurde der Blend zurück ins Fass gefüllt, wo er vor Abfüllung auf die Flasche weitere 4-5 Monate reifte.
