The Spice Route Chakalaka is a remarkable blend from Swartland, expertly crafted from six varietals. This wine captivates with intense aromas of fine cloves and a gentle whisper of white pepper, alongside luscious hints of ripe plums and cherries mingled with elegant spices. On the palate, it presents itself with incredible opulence, complex flavor layers, and harmoniously integrated notes of French oak. Its perfectly balanced tannins, soft mouthfeel, and stunning depth leave a lasting impression!
Chakalaka, a Zulu word meaning 'togetherness,' also denotes a traditional South African tomato relish renowned for its fiery seasoning, enhancing many local dishes. This creation beautifully encapsulates the cultural richness of the Rainbow Nation, which Spice Route proudly reflects.
Das Traubengut wurde handgelesen, komplett entrappt, leicht angequetscht und anschließend in offenen Beton-Tanks vergoren. Während der Fermentierung wurde der Tresterhut regelmäßig per Hand untergetaucht. Nach Abschluss der Gärung wurden die Weine der unterschiedlichen Rebsorten separat in Fässer aus französischer und amerikanischer Eiche gefüllt, wo die malolaktische Fermentierung ihren Abschluss fand. Die Weine reiften eine Gesamtzeit von 12 Monaten im Fass, bevor sie verschnitten wurden und anschließend als fertige Cuvée eine zweite Reifung im Fass durchliefen.
