The Kershaw Clonal Selection Elgin Chardonnay is marked by its understated mineral style, emphasizing harmony and precision. The nose reveals spiced poached pears, crisp apples, and a hint of white pepper. Floral notes of freesia and gardenia intertwine with ripe citrus and mint, contributing to the wine's elegance. This medium-bodied, bone-dry offering exhibits exceptional concentration and depth of flavor, making it a must-have for Chardonnay aficionados.
Utilizing Dijon clones CY76, CY95, CY96, and CY548 with low yields developed at the University of Burgundy, Richard Kershaw has garnered international acclaim for his Elgin Chardonnay.
The grapes for this premium Chardonnay were hand-picked on an early autumn morning and transported in 10 kg crates, promptly pressed whole upon arrival at the winery. The pressing yield was limited to 590 liters per ton. The juice flowed by gravity directly into barrels without pumps, ensuring minimal handling. The unclarified juice underwent spontaneous fermentation without the addition of enzymes or cultured yeasts, resting for four months in French oak barrels before careful sulphuring and a further seven months of aging. 38% of the barrels used were new, with the remainder being seasoned oak.

Der Kershaw schlechthin - einfach eine Bombe
Ich bin ein wahnsinnig großer Fan seiner Weine. Und sein Flaggschiff überzeugt mich einfach jedes mal wieder aufs neue. Tolle Balance, tolle Länge. Jedes Jahr schmeckt ein wenig anders, aber wie bei vielen großen Winzern sind auch die schwächeren/schwierigeren Jahre immernoch toll und besitzen ihre ganz eigene Stillistik. Ganz groß!
