Essential Tips for Removing Red Wine Stains – Methods That Work
Magazin | Journal Wissenswertes, Südafrika
It's true that red wine stains can be as assertive as blood. But there are many ways to tackle them!
1. Start by gently dabbing the spilled liquid with a clean cloth or paper towel. Avoid rubbing!
2. Since stain removers are often not on hand, it's better to rely on alternatives.
3. For light fabrics – think white shirts, light carpets, or table linens – we recommend using hydrogen peroxide and baking soda. This mix effectively pulls the stain out of the material. Let it work for a few minutes, then rinse with water. The washing machine will take care of any residues.
4. If red wine lands on a carpet, white wine can be a helpful solution. Simply "neutralize" the red wine stain with white wine. Absorb the liquid with a towel without rubbing! If the stain remains visible, salt or club soda may help.
5. Vinegar neutralizes the purple pigments. First, apply vinegar (light) followed by laundry soap or soda. Let it sit and then rinse.
6. Sprinkle generous amounts of salt on the red wine stain and let it sit so the salt can draw the wine out of the fabric.
It’s important to treat the stain as soon as possible to prevent it from setting too deep. The sooner you act, the easier the removal will be!
