The Growth of Rooibos Tea
Rooibos tea was recognized in 2021 with a Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) by the European Union. This means it has a distinct geographical origin and a specific production process in that area. The Rooibos plant is uniquely cultivated in the Cederberg region of the Western Cape.
Other renowned PDO products include Champagne from France and Feta cheese from Greece.
Currently, Rooibos stands as the only PDO product from South Africa.
