This time of year, we find ourselves eagerly counting down the days until we return to our second home at the Cape for an extended winter stay. The captivating draw of the Cape seems to affect others too, as evidenced by the fact that visitor numbers for the upcoming season are expected to surpass pre-pandemic levels, despite various political and infrastructural challenges. This reflects the resilience of South Africans who, regardless of circumstances, manage to retain their joyous spirits. This journey to Constantia was certainly worth the distance from our base in Somerset West. The restaurant at Beau Constantia is a feast for the senses. Situated among vineyards, it offers a modern and romantic atmosphere along with an exceptional dining experience. The four-course menu, including a vegetarian option priced around €45, is an absolute delight compared to dining prices in Germany. Anyone who appreciates gastronomy and hospitality will find the “Chefs Warehouse” a rewarding destination.

Reflecting on this evening, we first remember the head chef of this charming restaurant in the heart of Stellenbosch. After our meal, we engaged her in conversation about her playful culinary style that shines through at a price point significantly below that of Chefs Warehouse. The cozy, modern setting of Post & Pepper makes it an ideal stop for anyone staying close to the city.

Current menu delights include PORK LOLLIPOPS and KERALA FISH, tantalizing our taste buds and leaving us eager to return.

Sometimes the best finds are right under our noses. For over 20 years in Somerset West, we were unaware of the existence of this fine dining restaurant at the Erinvale Hotel. With stellar cuisine at a price that seems almost unbelievable compared to German standards, the splendid service makes every visit memorable.

If you are searching for authentic Italian cuisine with genuine Italian ingredients in a warm family atmosphere, Bella Stella is perfect, allowing kids to play outside while parents enjoy their meals in peace.

We were delighted by this eatery that we were unsure whether we had already written about, with its prime location at the Waterfront in Cape Town. The modern-edge atmosphere and a mix of international and Asian-inspired cuisine made for an unexpectedly delightful experience.

Finally, we recommend visiting “Magica Roma” in Pinelands; known for its excellent rendition of “Bistecca Fiorentina,” this establishment has maintained its quality for decades.
