A Scenic Journey on the Garden Route: Bredasdorp to Knysna
Magazin | Journal Ausflug, Reisetipps, Südafrika
Let’s get started on our remarkable tour.
Continuation Day 2 – From Bredasdorp to Knysna
After a delicious breakfast at Jean Daneel in Napier (his wines are exceptional), we first made a stop at the Shipwreck Museum Bredasdorp. Here we had the chance to admire some fascinating exhibits. While the visit isn't mandatory, the museum captivates with its thoughtful presentation. Historical insights come alive through graphics and original exhibits that illustrate how many ships have sunk in this area and how many lives were lost.
Aloe Vera Abundance
We continued our journey on the N2, now headed towards Knysna. About halfway, we excitedly stopped at Aloe Ferox near Albertinia. For aloe enthusiasts, this is an absolute must. Here you’ll find a wide range of products derived from this healing plant, including supplements, juices, and skincare items. Knowledgeable staff make shopping a pleasant experience, often at bargain prices. With our supply of products, we made our way to Headlands House Guesthouse in the Knysna Heads, where the view of the Indian Ocean from our room felt like a dream.
Culinary Experiences in Knysna
The closer we got to Knysna, the more our anticipation built for our first visit to Freshline Fisheries. The atmosphere was fantastic, with live music and a great vibe, serving up excellent fish. In this unpretentious open-air harbor pub, we enjoyed just what we hoped for. Content and happy, we fell into bed that night and awoke excited for the next day.
Day 3 - Hiking and Elephants
After a night serenaded by the ocean waves and a delightful breakfast, we visited the Knysna Elephant Park. Here we could get up close to these magnificent creatures. It was awe-inspiring to feel the strength of their trunks while simultaneously appreciating their gentleness. After feeding, we had the pleasure of observing the elephants for as long as we wished, a moment that deeply touched us.
Robberg Nature Reserve for Hiking in Plettenberg
Filled with all these impressions, we embarked on our hike at the Robberg Nature Reserve. Choose the middle route from the three options; the scenery and sea views are breathtaking and memorable. The day was a feast for the senses, and one should savor it.
In the evening, slightly exhausted, we delighted in excellent cuisine at Sirocco by the harbor. Given our commitments the next day, we had to make a quick getaway home, but we were determined to travel more often in the next year, even if it's just for a few days.
A little tip for those who can spare some more time: An additional day at Struisbaai or Cape Agulhas would be rewarding, as it is the southernmost point of Africa.
