The Vergelegen Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve captivates with its impressive complexity, featuring aromas of blackberries, spices, and ripe plums, harmoniously complemented by wood tones. This full-bodied, opulent wine displays ripe tannins and a long, smooth finish. The 2021 vintage is celebrated as one of the best in the Cape, reflecting the estate's distinctive terroir, with vines cultivated in ancient, deep red soils.
Fermentation occurred in open tanks at high temperatures between 28°C and 32°C, with the cap submerged every six hours to maximize extraction of color and tannins. The wine was kept in contact with the skins until pressing, followed by 16 months of aging in 225 L barrels, 40% of which were new French oak (Taransaud & Darnajou).
