The Sadie Family Die Ouwingerdreeks Skurfberg impresses with lively notes of fresh Granny Smith apples and riper tropical fruits. This vintage presents an appealing viscosity, balanced by a long, vibrant acidity on the finish. It reflects a more streamlined interpretation of the vineyard and will further integrate with some time in the bottle.
"Ou Wingerdreeks" means "old vines," referring to wines produced from ancient vines in the Cape. Here, the grapes are sourced from the mountains in Citrusdal and the West Coast.
The grapes are hand-picked into 20 kg crates and then taken to a cooling room to lower the temperature. After cooling, the berries from three distinct Chenin Blanc parcels are fermented separately and aged in used barrels for 12 months on fine lees before blending. Following an additional six months of joint aging, the wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered.
