The Rustenberg Five Soldiers Chardonnay enchants with a powerful aroma of ripe citrus, melon, and peach, accompanied by remarkable minerality and a beautifully integrated oak influence. This Chardonnay is alluringly complex with a long, creamy finish and a solid backbone of balanced acidity.
Originating from the prestigious Five Soldiers vineyard, named for the five towering pine trees that loom over the area, the carefully harvested Chardonnay grapes are magnificently transformed in the cellar. The final product is a bold, full-bodied wine that's delightful in its youth yet offers greater complexity with careful aging that rewards the patient connoisseur.
The handpicked grapes were whole-bunch pressed upon arrival at the winery and spontaneously fermented in 300-liter French oak barrels. This spontaneous fermentation utilized only wild yeasts, naturally present on the fruit and in the environment, with no commercial yeasts added. Following fermentation, the wine aged for 15 months in a combination of 70% new oak and 30% second-fill barrels on the lees.
