The Radford Dale Frankenstein Pinotage 2023 is anything but ordinary. Derived from 30-year-old vines, this Pinotage reveals a silky texture and remarkable balance, radiating elegance. Its intoxicating bouquet of juicy red berries embraces the senses, offering delightful freshness. The low yield contributes to an impressive fruit concentration that expresses South Africa's unique terroir.
Inspired by Dr. Abraham Perold, who created the Pinotage variety in 1925, this wine pays homage to his spirit of innovation. Much like Mary Shelley's Victor Frankenstein, who crafted a remarkable being from mismatched parts, this Pinotage celebrates the artistry of winemaking.
The grapes were handpicked and transported in small 20 kg baskets to the winery, where they were cooled overnight. The following morning, a meticulous selection was made: 50% of the fruit was destemmed and placed whole into wooden fermenters, while the remainder was crushed and fermented. After fermentation, the wine was pressed in a traditional basket press and matured in French barrels to complete its aging process.
