Hailing from the exceptional terroir of the Kloof vineyard in Elgin, the Iona Kloof Chardonnay 2024 offers a stony and linear profile enhanced by its zesty acidity. The palate accentuates delicate notes of pear and lime, mingling with distinctive hints of salinity and oyster shell minerality. A wine experience not to be missed, showcasing outstanding aging potential. With careful oak treatment, this wine emerges as precise, complex, and multifaceted. Situated 420 meters above sea level, overlooking the idyllic Elgin Valley and the Atlantic, Andrew Gunn established Iona in one of the coolest wine regions in the Cape.
Handpicked grapes were cooled overnight before whole berry pressing. No fining agents were used, ensuring a juice rich in solids. This wine underwent 100% wild fermentation in selected French oak barrels of 300 liters (20% new, the rest in second, third, and fourth fill). It spent 12 months on the lees, with 20% malolactic fermentation and no battonage. The wine was then racked, blended, and naturally clarified and stabilized for three months prior to bottling.
