With an imposing ink-like appearance, the De Krans Cape Vintage Reserve 2020 displays a vibrant plum-red edge. Its aromatic bouquet offers a captivating blend of ripe red berries and cherries, complemented by delicate floral notes of violets and hints of dark chocolate. The palate reveals a sumptuous array of dark fruit flavors, including ripe plums, mulberries, and black currants, elegantly supported by smooth dark chocolate undertones and structured tannins. This distinguished wine is crafted from vines aged over 30 years, thriving in Karoo clay and sandy soils. Hand-harvested in selected plots from mid to late February, the blend features Touriga Nacional (71%) and Tinta Roriz (29%) grapes.
Die mit großer Sorgfalt ausgesuchten Trauben für den De Krans Cape Vintage Reserve wurden per Hand gelesen und bei Ankunft in der Kellerei entrappt, gequetscht und in offenen Gärbehältern rapide runtergekühlt. Die Trauben wurden der spontanen Gärung überlassen, d.h. ausschließlich durch wilde Hefekulturen, welche natürlich in der Umgebung vorkommen, setzte die Fermentierung der Beeren ein. Beim gewünschten Zuckerlevel wurde der Gärungsprozess durch die Zugabe von Alkohol zum Saft unterbunden. Anschließend reifte der Wein 12 Monate lang in großen Fässern.
