The Boschendal Nicolas 2023 is a splendid cuvée that exemplifies the remarkable qualities of its grape varieties. Dominated by Shiraz, a hallmark of Boschendal, this blend reveals an enticing depth enriched with subtle spice notes. Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot contribute an elegant structure, while Malbec provides an impressive deep color and vibrant red fruit aromas. Merlot softens the fruit profile, and Cabernet Franc balances the spiced richness of the Shiraz. Fresh with hints of fine mint, this exquisite red blend concludes with a smooth, lingering finish, showcasing cassis and blackberry notes alongside well-integrated oak and firm tannins.
Primary and malolactic fermentation occur in stainless steel tanks before aging in 100% French oak barrels for 14-16 months, with 30% new oak. A combination of 300L barrels for Bordeaux varieties and 500L barrels for the Shiraz is utilized.
