The International Breaking the Bias Award
Breaking biases means fostering communities and actively shaping decisions. It is essential to build a leadership team that mirrors the diversity of the customer base while creating an environment where all employees feel welcome.
This award recognizes those who advocate for equality and breaking down stereotypes.
An Honor for Van Loveren
Van Loveren also receives a reward of €10,000 for all approved Fairtrade initiatives. Rhoda Mc Niel and Sune September accepted the award on behalf of their colleagues. While Rhoda has been with the company since 1996, Sune has worked on the farm since 2013.
“It’s a great honor to win the Break the Bias Award and receive the certificate. It demonstrates the potential of women. Our possibilities are limitless,” Sune proudly stated.
The event “Break the Bias” provided a space for women to share their experiences and celebrate their achievements in the community. Women play a crucial role in the agricultural sector across Africa but often face discrimination based on their gender. A study has shown that patriarchal attitudes, along with challenges related to motherhood and a lack of education, hinder women in agriculture.
The communications officer from Fairtrade Africa highlights that women across the continent are dismantling these barriers every day. There are many women within the Fairtrade Africa network who are doing excellent work but often do not receive the recognition they deserve.
In 2011, Van Loveren received its Fairtrade accreditation and continues striving to improve production and trade conditions for its employees and disadvantaged workers!
