The last two years have been the toughest for the global tourism sector due to the pandemic, according to Maynier. This ranking demonstrates that the Western Cape, with its capital Cape Town, has remained a world-class travel destination and is a consistent favorite on global travel wish lists.

Since the start of the hard lockdown last year, all stakeholders and communities in Stellenbosch have worked tirelessly to revitalize the economy and the tourism sector. “Being a city reliant on tourism, it was a great challenge,” Minister Maynier further remarked.
