Karl Heinz Stock is a visionary. When he moved to Portugal in 1996, he followed his passion for art. Then he fell for Portuguese wine and recognized the beautiful interplay of art and wine. Hence, he purchased Quinta dos Vales in Algarve. His dream: to craft the best wine from Portugal in the southern region. Karl Heinz Stock succeeded. His boutique winery has grown since 2007 across 44 hectares, welcoming wine lovers from all corners of the globe.

After establishing his winery, 2017 brought a new challenge. The Algarve, one of Europe’s premier vacation spots, seemed the ideal backdrop for dream realization. “What true wine lover doesn’t dream of creating their own wine?” he thought and embarked on the project titled 'The Winemaker Experience.'

Transforming Wine Enthusiasts into Winemakers

The goal of 'The Winemaker Experience' is to turn wine lovers into winemakers. Hobby wine makers are offered small vineyard plots, allowing them the freedom to choose their grape varieties to create their unique wine. These plots are sized to ensure that new winemakers can expect a yield adequate enough for producing a barrel of wine.

Learning Under the Guidance of Professionals

Karl Heinz Stock’s idea quickly spread and blossomed into success over the last five years. Initially, in 2017, only a handful of wine lovers participated, but the project unexpectedly soared last year, bolstered by word-of-mouth among wine aficionados about this unique opportunity to learn from professionals at Quinta dos Vales.

Worry-free Wine Creation

From 2020 to 2021, the number of wine enthusiasts joining 'The Winemaker Experience' jumped from 7 to 18. Karl Heinz Stock ensures they create their personal wine in a relaxed manner while keeping control over grape varieties and harvest timing.

18 Wine Productions by Private Individuals

In 2021, the winemaking team at Quinta dos Vales managed 18 private projects alongside their own wines, presenting a significant challenge for all staff.

Innovative Niche in the Wine Industry

“We take pride in establishing this innovative niche within the wine industry,” expresses Karl Heinz Stock. Currently, there are 20 small vineyards owned by individuals on the Quinta dos Vales property, with only space for 12 more private vineyard plots available.
