Launch of Alexander Vineyards - A New Star in Noordhoek

An Emotional Moment

It is a rare occasion to witness a host with tears in their eyes during a wine presentation. This was palpable at the launch of Alexander Vineyards in early November.

For Stephen Alexander Newton, a long-held dream became reality. Attendees experienced a unique collection of wines at one of Cape Peninsula's distinguished wineries.

Stephen's Roots and Journey Abroad

Raised in Fish Hoek, Stephen attended Wynberg Boys’ High School and studied at the University of Cape Town. Upon graduating as a Chartered Accountant, he moved to the UK. What was initially planned as a short stay evolved into a lasting home. Stephen developed a family and a successful career.

In 2020, he made headlines as his consulting firm Elixirr was listed on the London Stock Exchange - the first company to do so after the Covid pandemic.

The Return to Roots

Stephen’s grandfather, Alexander Moir, once owned a farm in Noordhoek, which was lost to the family. This loss left a significant mark on Stephen's life. In 2019, he seized the chance to reclaim Cape Point Vineyards, the former family farm, closing an emotional circle.

The Foundation of The Alexander Estate

With respect for family heritage, the estate was carefully expanded. In 2025, The Alexander Estate was founded, named in honor of Alexander Moir. At the center lies a luxurious Guest Villa, complemented by the newly established brand Alexander Vineyards.

Wine and Culinary Expertise

The wines are crafted by Hannes Meyer, a seasoned Cellarmaster and CEO. His experiences at Simonsig and Lomond are evident in the clarity and elegance of his work. The launch was gastronomically enhanced by Nic Moses, who delighted with intricately designed canapés and an exceptional menu.

Location and View

The villa is situated below the event area of Cape Point Vineyards and shares the same access point. From this vantage point, the view stretches across the infinity pool to Kommetjie and Long Beach – a panorama emphasizing the unique character of the location.

Design and Identity of the Wines

The labels were designed by Emma Swanepoel, featuring elements from Fynbos and Protea, which characterize the portfolio and reflect a deep connection to the South African nature.

A Legacy for Future Generations

Both Stephen and his son James Alexander Newton carry the name Alexander as a tribute to Alexander Moir. Historical photographs from the 1960s further enrich the emotional narrative of the estate.

A Future Deeply Rooted in South Africa

Although James Alexander Newton grew up in the UK, he maintains a strong bond with South Africa. He returned to actively lead the winery and shape the future of The Alexander Estate. The wines are on their way and will soon be available in our shop.
