Amidst the alarming pandemic developments in Germany, we are closely watching the situation from the Cape. On November 6, South Africa reported 368 new cases while Germany's numbers were nearly 100 times higher. This raises questions about whether a visit to the Cape is still advisable.

This week, we're highlighting the fine wines from Rupert. The Rupert family is recognized as the most renowned industrial family in South Africa and is among the wealthiest families worldwide. Many rare jobs in South Africa rely directly on the Ruperts. During the worst of the COVID crisis, Johann Rupert supported numerous small and medium-sized enterprises with his investment fund, and he continues to be involved in various social initiatives, notably through his wife's charitable organization Imibala in Somerset West, collaborating with our association Lebenslinien e.V.

The family is also actively engaged in agriculture through various wineries. We were pleasantly surprised when, a few years ago, our phone call to the winery was answered by Johann Rupert himself. Although he couldn’t assist directly with my inquiry about a specific analysis value in one of his wines, he was eager to connect me to the appropriate staff member.

This week, we feature wines from two of the Rupert family’s wineries, showcasing the Proteas and Optima from Anthonij Rupert, whose estate was taken over by Johann after the tragic passing of his brother Anton, along with the Rupert & Rothschild wines, produced from the collaboration initiated in 1997 between the late Anthon Rupert and Baron Benjamin de Rothschild. This selection extends from high-quality everyday whites to prestigious wines recognized as some of the best in their category.

From Portugal, we have wines from the Fundacao de Almeida, one of the most prestigious wineries in Portugal. The profits from the Cartuxa winery support cultural development projects in the Évora region. For us wine lovers, these products provide essence of indulgence – with certain premium products delivering truly captivating vinous experiences.

Our small selection of six wines ranges from the certified organic EA Tinto to the sought-after Cartuxa wines and the possibly most prized and sought-after Portuguese wine in the world, Pera Manca Tinto. Unfortunately, we can only offer three bottles at a special price, limited to one per customer. A similar situation applies to the Pera Manca Branco, for which we managed to provide a few more bottles.
