João Portugal Ramos' winery is in Estremoz, covering 40 hectares. However, this doesn't encompass the full scope of this esteemed winemaker's world. His vineyards span 5 of Portugal's 14 wine regions: Douro Valley, Beiras, Vinho Verde, Tejo, and Alentejo, where everything began.

His foray into winemaking commenced in Estremoz, housing the heart of his wine empire – Adega Vila Santa. Here, after advising multiple winemakers, he planted his first vines in 1989, with the winery built in 1997 and expanded in 2000 and 2017, now welcoming visitors globally.

Initially, João Portugal Ramos didn’t set out to produce wine; he entered the field as an oenologist, eager to rejuvenate Portugal’s wine economy. By the 1990s, he began making his own wines, committing to sustainable practices of careful handpicking and yield management to enhance quality.

João Portugal Ramos Vinhos has consistently sought quality over quantity, aiming to produce wines representing their regions, establishing symbols of excellence from Alentejo, Tejo, Beiras, Douro, and Vinho Verde. The fusion of modern winemaking techniques, the dedication of his team, and well-tended vines ensures success.

In the Douro region, he initiated the Duorum Project in 2007, alongside winemaker José Maria Soares Franco, crafting unique wines with a global appeal.

Quinta de Foz de Arouce in Beiras has won accolades, including being named Winery of the Year by "Wine & Spirits" in 2014.

In Vinho Verde, his vineyards produce Alvarinho grapes for elegant wines celebrated both locally and internationally.

Every year, he carefully selects grape varieties, and he tends to leased lands under stringent standards, ensuring exceptional quality.
