The New Year's Eve: Arriving and Enjoying

After a long flight, we arrived in Somerset West on December 31 at around 7 PM. Shortly after, we found ourselves at friends' homes, delving into delicious food and excellent wines. We savored our way into the New Year before falling into bed, exhausted but happy, just after midnight.

A Day at the Beach: Immersing in South African Spirit

On New Year's Day, we set out for a special experience: a beach trip to Strand, just like many South Africans do.

We were cautioned by friends: it would be crowded, chaotic, and unsafe. Yet the reality surprised us – the day was filled with warmth and remarkable experiences.

Our Experiences and the Atmosphere at the Beach

We felt welcomed everywhere. People came up to us, wishing a Happy New Year, asking for photos, and sharing their stories.

It was rare to embrace so many strangers in such a short time. These moments of closeness deeply impacted us, highlighting the special spirit of South Africa.

The beach was alive with people, music, and joy. Families were gathered; children splashed in the water. The scent of potent herbs lingered in the air, yet the peaceful atmosphere remained undisturbed.

A group of young men suddenly broke into harmonious song, drawing everyone's attention.

Prejudices and Our Observations

We were the only whites among all the cheerful individuals at the beach. Clearly, negative propaganda that often paints this day as dangerous had its effect. However, we felt welcomed and could quickly dispel those prejudices.

Safety and Organization: Impressively Good

The organization was remarkable – both on land and in the water.

With surveillance cameras in the nearby building and patrolling teams from National Sea Rescue, the security measures were well thought out.

Dancing at the Beach: A Flashmob of Joy

Another highlight was a group of girls who began to dance. As more people joined in, it became a flashmob. We were mesmerized, unable to escape the spirit of life.

Conclusion: Pure Joy of Life

Our afternoon at the beach will remain unforgettable. Later, over a good meal and a bottle of Thelema, we decided to share these experiences.
