Discover South Africa: Inspiring Films and Exceptional Wines

“Joy and Happiness” are feelings that enrich our lives, and during tumultuous times, we often hold the key to them. A full-bodied glass of wine can certainly bring much joy, and we have some special offers featuring wines from our recent tastings.

Yet to experience deeper joy and confidence, we need more than just fleeting pleasures. This week, we encountered two outstanding films related to South Africa that we’re excited to share, with trailers available on YouTube.

“MISSION: JOY”
Joy and Hope in Challenging Times

This documentary features two friends, the former Anglican Archbishop of Cape Town, Desmond Tutu, and the Dalai Lama, revealing their indomitable spirit and joy despite political hurdles. Together, they penned a book on joy, realizing: “Only when we unleash deeply felt joy can we positively shape our lives and the surrounding world.” (from Google Books)

The uplifting film currently screens in German arthouse cinemas and highlights their unique friendship, sure to bring many smiles. Watch the trailer on YouTube.

“Blind Ambition” is another inspiring documentary that tells the story of four refugees from Zimbabwe who found a new home in South Africa in 2008 and made history in winemaking.

These four men, initially without any experience in winemaking, qualified for the unofficial Sommelier Olympics in Burgundy, winning it impressively. Their joy for life and determination are both touching and inspiring.

While it may not hit screens in Germany, the film has already premiered in Cape Town and should soon be available for streaming online, reportedly on Netflix from August.

How does this concern us? One of the four, Joseph Tongai Dhafana, also known as “Mosi”, has made a name for himself with his company Mosi Wines and is among the top winemakers in South Africa.
