The Ataraxia Serenity has been crafted with exceptional care, reflecting the artistry of winemaker Kevin Grant. This distinctive blend pays homage to South Africa’s unique varietal identity, capturing a sense of serenity.
Since 2006, Grant has been captivated by the notion of a 'cool climate' Pinotage combined with its ancestral grapes. This blend is the result of years of meticulous experimentation. Each grape variety was hand-picked at optimal ripeness and subsequently underwent separate fermentation, respecting its individuality. Maturing in small 225L French oak barrels, this vintage showcases a wine that transcends the typical Pinot Noir boundaries. The 2021 Serenity brings forth a harmonious profile, with alluring aromas of fragrant tobacco, ripe red berries, and finely integrated oak flavors.
Hand-harvested grapes underwent meticulous sorting and were lightly crushed in open fermentation tanks. Following a 7-10 day cold maceration, the wine was pressed and transferred separately into barrels for malolactic fermentation. The wine matured for 11 months in carefully selected French barriques, with 32% being new or first-fill wood. Afterward, the blends were assembled and bottled for your enjoyment.
