The Alvi’s Drift Verreaux Pinotage exemplifies the delight of South African winemaking, sourced exclusively from the estate's own vineyards. With a deep ruby color, it reveals enticing aromas of sun-ripened berries—mulberries and blackberries—layered with delicate hints of leather, spices, nuts, and a touch of vanilla. Named after the majestic Verreaux Eagle, which soars above Alvi's Drift, this wine pays homage to the French naturalist Pierre Jules Verreaux, who first described various South African bird species. The winery celebrates this legacy with its flagship Pinotage.
Das Traubengut wurde zur Fermentierung in traditionell offenen Gärtanks gequetscht. Der Saft „blutete“ dabei von der Schale, um ein Maximum an Farbe und optimale phenolische Werte im Wein zu erhalten. Mit Einsatz der Gärung wurde der Tresterhut bis zu achtmal täglich per Hand untergetaucht. Nach Abschluss der Fermentierung reifte der Wein 22 Monate lang in einer Kombination aus neuen französischen sowie amerikanischen Eichenfässern.
