The AA Badenhorst Kalmoesfontein White Blend 2023 is a captivating and lively representation of South Africa's Swartland region, masterfully crafted from eight grape varieties, with Grenache Blanc and Chenin Blanc leading the ensemble. Aromas of ripe stone fruits, intriguing spices, beeswax, and fragrant citrus blossoms entice the senses, gracefully transitioning to a rich palate that balances flavors of lush stone fruit, oranges, and a mineral touch, all supported by vibrant acidity. The finish is a satisfying blend of fruity opulence and elegance.
The cooled grapes were pressed whole-bunch, and the juice was transferred into older, previously used barrels. Some varieties were blended here, while others fermented separately. After fermentation, the wines aged for 15 months in older 1200L and 3000L foudres. Following maturation, all wines were blended and continued aging in concrete tanks on the lees for another six to eight months before bottling.
