Using top quality grapes grown on Sunday's Glen Farm's "cool climate", Hermanuspietersfontein focuses on the production of award-winning Bordeaux and Rhône style blends, including wines such as Die Arnoldus, Die Martha and Kleinboet, as well as the creation of highly-doped Sauvignon Blancs. The latter are offered in both dry and sweet style, wooded or unwooded, and bear names such as Sauvignon Blanc No 2, Sauvignon Blanc No 3, Sauvignon Blanc No 5, etc. The only single varietal red wine of the winery, made from 100% Cabernet Franc, is the appropriately named Swartskaap ('black sheep').
Due to their high altitude, the vineyards benefit from the cool breezes of the Atlantic Ocean - a unique microclimate that plays an important role in the character of the wines of Hermanuspietersfontein.
The 320-hectare wine farm enjoys a unique terroir, which translates a distinctive style into the wine. The western hillsides are more suitable for growing noble Bordeaux varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Petit Verdot, Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon, while the eastern slopes prefer Rhône varieties such as Shiraz, Mourvèdre, Grenache and Viognier. The two winemakers Bartho Eksteen and Kim McFarlane form a passionate team and, together with a wealth of expertise and know-how, ensure consistent quality and excellence - the annual rain of prizes, awards and prestigious recognitions bears witness to Hermanuspietersfontein's dedication to wine.
