Information about "Ghost Corner Pinot Noir 2024"

The Ghost Corner Pinot Noir 2024 captivates with a complex bouquet of wild berries, refined with notes of rhubarb and ripe cherries, along with hints of sage and rosemary. The characteristic earthy tones complete the experience. On the palate, it reveals a creamy mouthfeel, accompanied by elegant and well-integrated tannins, culminating in a pleasantly dry finish where soft earthy nuances linger. This promising example embodies the potential of an extraordinary South African Pinot Noir.

The Ghost Corner range is shaped by the rugged coastal landscape of Cape Agulhas near Elim, known as ‘Spookdraai’, a place where numerous ships have met their fate. These wines are as multifaceted and fascinating as the stories behind their origins at the southernmost point of the Cape Winelands.

Treatment in the cellar

10% of the handpicked Pinot Noir grapes were fermented whole bunch, while the remaining 90% were completely destemmed. Fermentation occurred spontaneously in some stainless steel tanks, while others were inoculated with selected yeast cultures. During fermentation, the wine was pumped over once daily at a maximum temperature of 27°C, with the cap submerged twice a day by hand. After fermentation, the grapes were pressed and transferred to French barriques (228L), where malolactic fermentation was completed. The wine aged for 10 months in barrel (20% new oak, 20% second fill, 20% third fill, 20% fourth fill, and 20% fifth fill).
