Vineyard Colmant
Colmant's portfolio of highly endowed Cap Classique sparkling wines from classic grape varieties includes the Colmant Brut Rosé, the Colmant Brut Reserve and the Colmant Brut Chardonnay, which regularly receive prestigious awards and honours and bear witness to remarkable quality.
It is now more than a decade since Jean-Philippe Colmant, his wife Isabelle and their five children emigrated from their home in French-speaking Belgium to South Africa in 2002 to pursue their true passion, the "bubbly", a South African expression for MCC. On their travels through South Africa, the family fell in love with the picturesque Franschhoek Valley, where they finally purchased a 5-hectare small farm, which was once part of the original La Motte Farm dating from 1694.
No place would be better suited for the production of fine Cap Classiques. So the Colmant family began replanting the vineyards and building a cellar based on the age-old method of champagne production. Only Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, the classic varieties for sparkling pleasure, grow on Colmant's vineyards.
This is a wonderful success story of a family who set out to make their dream come true on the other side of the world.
