Vineyard Alto Wine Estate
Alto is the oldest red wine estate in South Africa. The history of the winery dates back to 1693 when it was part of the larger Groenrivier Farm. Although the first vines were planted centuries ago, it wasn't until 1920 that the production of wine began to play an important role for the estate.
In Alto's history, there have only been four different winemakers entrusted tp produce Altos' award-winning wines, over the last 80 years. Schalk van der Westhuizen is Alto's current winemaker and his total dedication and passion for the Stellenbosch wine region and its superb wines continues to lead Alto into a bright future.
