Vineyard Porseleinberg
The Porseleinberg Winery in South Africa's Swartland Wine Region is home to one of the Cape's most groundbreaking and world-class Syrah, which impressively embodies the essence of a terroir-true and incredibly authentic wine. The extremely rugged and dry slate mountain, on which the first-class grapes for the renowned Poreseleinberg Syrah are grown, does not exactly invite to simple viticulture, but an extreme terroir naturally produces an extreme wine! This revolutionary Swartland Syrah is cultivated on a rugged and slate like rocky outcrop called "Porzellanberg" southeast of Riebeek-Kasteel. This extreme terroir, combined with natural and uncomplicated viticulture, results in a truly unique Cape Syrah, which has an enormous character and a remarkably rhône-like structure. Porseleinberg is probably one of the most outstanding Syrah growing areas in the southern hemisphere. The vines are still young, yet this rugged vineyard produces wines of incredible intensity and concentration.
With this revolutionary long-term project by Marc Kent, winemaker at the legendary Boekenhoutskloof Winery, Callie Louw became the winemaker and manager of this special vineyard. But Callie, who is at home on his John Deere tractor, not only looks after the vineyard, but also produces the winery's wine - a rich, tannic yet ethereal Syrah that is immensely reminiscent of wines from the Rhône region, such as Cornas or Hermitage. Masterful wine craftsmanship that is causing a storm worldwide among passionate and die-hard Syrah lovers!
