Fable Mountain Vineyards - Prämiertes Weingut in Tulbagh, Südafrika

Oenologists Rebecca Tanner and Paul Nicholls focus their attention at Fable Mountain Vineyards on the production of authentic wines that express the character of typical Rhône varieties in an unbeatable way. The highly endowed and award-winning portfolio includes Fable Mountain The Night Sky, a cuvée of Syrah, Mourvèdre and Grenache, the critically acclaimed Fable Mountain Syrah, and Jackal Bird, a remarkable top-of-the-line white wine blend of Chenin Blanc, Grenache Blanc, Roussanne, Viognier and Chardonnay.

The remote farm is located at an altitude of 400-650 m. Vines grow here with difficulty and very slowly, they have to get by with extremely little soil, with roots that have to penetrate primeval slate layers. The mountains behind Fable Mountain Vineyards rise high above the vines, which contributes to the uniqueness of this location. In the morning hours, the mountains cast large shadows over the farm, which have a cooling effect on the grapes, allowing them to ripen slowly and steadily during the hot summer months and to retain their natural acidity. In winter, the snow-covered mountain peaks help to keep the vines hibernating longer.

This is an extremely challenging growing area, as bush fires, extreme weather conditions, wildlife and natural hazards are all present during the growth and ripening phase of the grapes. A biodynamic and agro-ecological approach at all stages of wine production is paramount to preserve the integrity of this particular vineyard.
